The Ceph Object Gateway (RGW) has a modular multi-site framework for distributing data across different sites. RGW multi-site started as a basic master-slave Disaster Recovery feature, but it has since evolved and has provided a more complete and flexible solution. New in Ceph Octopus are the sync policy engine and the bucket granularity sync that extend what is possible to do with the system. Future development will bring even more transformation in the different ways RGW will cooperate in hybrid cloud environments.
This presentation will provide the basics of RGW multisite, and the different options users will have in Octopus when they will want to distribute their data across different sites. The new bucket granularity, sync policy, and related admin tools will be presented.
